STATISTICS 801

Statistical Theory / Mathematical Statistics

Instructor: Richard A. Lockhart

Office: TLX 10546 Phone: 291-3264 Messages: 291-3331 e-mail: lockhart@sfu.ca

Course structure: There will be 4 hours per week of lectures, assignments and a final exam. In September the class will meet Mondays at 8:30 AM to 10:15 AM and Fridays from 9:30 AM to 11:15 AM. In October the Monday lecture will move to Wednesday at 9:30 AM to 11:15 AM. Notes for individual lectures may sometimes be available under the links in the bar at the left of this page. However, I do not expect this to happen very often.

Text: The lectures will not follow a text. However, I have ordered Statistical Inference by Casella and Berger as a recommended reference.

Computing requirements: Some of the homework will require computing in S and possibly Maple. THERE ARE NO JOBS FOR STATISTICIANS WHO CAN'T DO THE COMPUTING.

Grading: Assignments 60%, and Final 40%.

Privacy Policy: The Math and Stat department has a policy on privacy under which students who desire so may have their homework returned in some private way; if you are such a student you should speak to me immediately.
