MSc in Applied Mathematics at SFU (2009)

PhD in Applied Mathematics at SFU (expected finish in 2012)

Current Position: PhD Student

Upon completion of my PhD, I look forward to heading to the University of Texas at Austin to begin a postdoc next fall at the University of Texas at Austin.

SFU has provided a great environment to learn, to do research, and to make new connections.  All of the faculty are very knowledgeable and approachable.  The graduate students are always willing to support each other as we learn and develop our skills, and we always manage to have fun in the process.  During my time at SFU, this has taken many forms including opportunities to practice giving talks in front of others, working groups organised to study an interesting topic, spontaneous road trips to conferences in other cities, and putting our textbooks (and problem solving skills) to good use by using them to keep an icepack supported against a poorly functioning thermostat.

SFU has also provided me with the opportunity to attend conferences and present my research around the continent.  Some memorable destinations include Los Angeles, New Orleans, Berkeley, and Santa Fe.
