The Applied Mathematics program focuses on models from the physical, life and financial sciences. Students learn to develop computational solutions and to understand the theory behind the mathematical models that arise in science and technology. Courses emphasize theory, model development and scientific computing, and can lead to careers or research opportunities in many technical fields. Applied Mathematics courses focus on quantitative methods and are excellent choices for students concentrating in other sciences or engineering. Students interested in applied mathematics may also wish to consider the joint program in mathematics and computing science, and the mathematical physics honors program, both of which include a substantial number of applied mathematics courses.
